If you believe that diabetes happens only to older people, it is not so. Children below the age of 18 years are also coming in the grip of this disease. In general, blood sugar levels should be 100–140, but the blood sugar level in these children tested is 200 to 300 on average. Four to five children suffer from diabetes in an average of 150 to 200 patients visiting the OPD of the Endocrinology Department of BHU IMS every day. Some of them are prone to diabetes due to unbalanced eating, excessive consumption of junk food, poor lifestyle, irregular routines and obesity. There are some children whose doctors have to give insulin to control sugar level.
Cause of diabetes in children:
Weight gain is more than normal, pancreas gland malfunction, virus infection.
These are the major characteristics:
Increased appetite and frequent urination, weakness and tiredness, weight loss.
How to save:
Avoid consuming junk food. Increase participation in sports activities. Cycling is also necessary along with walking in the morning. Keep in touch with the doctor and take medicines on time.
Obesity, poor routines and unbalanced diet are the cause of diabetes in some children under 18 years of age. These children are advised to participate in sports and avoid junk food. Parents also have to pay attention to the health of children. In this disease, the level of glucose in the blood is higher than normal.
